Archived project

The GitHub repository for this project is archived: it is read-only and no longer updated. Apple has stopped making the AirPort base stations, which is why the design is no longer maintained. What follows describes the project as it was.

A 3D printable wall mount for the Apple AirPort Extreme, 5th generation. The base station slides into the mount and the mount is screwed to the wall with two screws, so the router sits out of the way and stays easy to reach. The AirPort was used here as an access router.

The 3D model of the wall mount: a flat plate with a raised block at both ends

The design

The mount is a flat plate with a raised block at each end. The base station slides in between the two blocks. Two holes in the plate take the screws for the wall.

MeasurementValue
AirPort Extreme, width and depth165 mm
AirPort Extreme, height34 mm
Space between the blocks of the mountAbout 165.8 mm
Height of the blocksAbout 32.2 mm
The mount seen from the front, with a dimension line of about 165.8 mm between the two blocks
The mount seen from the side, with the height of the block of about 32.2 mm

The design was made with the free version of Autodesk Fusion 360.

Print and install

  1. Print the mount in PLA. It was printed on an Ender 3 V2.
  2. Screw the mount to the wall with two screws, through the two holes in the plate.
  3. Slide the AirPort Extreme into the mount.
