Fritzing is an open-source tool that anyone can use to teach, share and prototype electronic projects. It lets you draw a schematic, and turns it into the neat, professional-looking wiring diagrams you see in the guides on this site.

The boards and modules used at StudioPieters were not in Fritzing, so they were made as custom parts. This collection has about 40 of them, and it has been downloaded thousands of times.

What is in the collection

The parts follow what the guides and projects here use. Every part has a picture in the repository, which is how the list below was made.

Getting the parts

The parts are not in the repository as files you can browse. They are published as a release, a single Fritzing.parts.rar of about 6 MB, on the releases page of the repository. The archive is a RAR file, so you need a program that can open those.

There have been four releases, from 0.0.1 in February 2021 to 0.0.4 in January 2023, called Parts Update. Together they were downloaded more than 7,000 times.

The repository also has a custom folder icon to make the parts folder easy to find. On a Mac, choose File, then Get Info, click the small folder icon at the top of the info window, and drag the new icon onto it.

Licence

The parts are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence, CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, copyright 2023 Achim Pieters | StudioPieters. In short: you may use and share them with credit, but not for commercial use, and you may not share modified versions. Read the licence itself for the exact terms.

Good to know

  • The repository was created in 2016, and the last release is from January 2023.

Everything is in the Fritzing-Custom-Parts repository on GitHub.
