A Homebridge plugin for a NeoPixel light strip. It gives the strip four characteristics in HomeKit: on, brightness, hue and saturation, so the Home app can show a colour wheel and a brightness slider.
Homebridge is a program that runs on a computer such as a Raspberry Pi, and makes devices that do not support HomeKit show up in the Apple Home app. This project dates from the Homebridge years, before the native HomeKit firmware of this site. For how the site builds HomeKit devices today, see HomeKit or Matter for your ESP32.
How it works
The plugin talks over HTTP to a device that drives the strip, such as the ESP8266 sketch in the Homebridge NeoPixel light project. It calls addresses for turning the strip on and off, and for reading and setting the state, the colour and the brightness.
| Characteristic | What it does |
|---|---|
| On | Switches the strip on and off |
| Brightness | How bright the strip is |
| Hue | The colour |
| Saturation | How strong the colour is |
In the configuration, powerOn and powerOff can be a string or an object. A string is used as the address, with an empty body. The purpose of powerOn and powerOff for a NeoPixel strip is not to switch the power of the strip.
Install
- Install Homebridge with
