Fritzing is an open-source tool that anyone can use to teach, share and prototype electronic projects. It lets you draw a schematic, and turns it into the neat, professional-looking wiring diagrams you see in the guides on this site.
The boards and modules used at StudioPieters were not in Fritzing, so they were made as custom parts. This collection has about 40 of them, and it has been downloaded thousands of times.
What is in the collection
The parts follow what the guides and projects here use. Every part has a picture in the repository, which is how the list below was made.
| Group | Parts |
|---|---|
| Boards and modules | ESP32, ESP32-CAM (front and back), ESP8266 WiFi module, ESP8266-01S, ESP8266-01 NeoPixel module, ESP-02 with battery, NodeMCU V3.0 and NodeMCU V3.0 CH340G, Arduino Nano (Rev 3.0) |
| Programmers | The ESP8266 programmer, in versions with and without the ESP module |
| Microcontrollers | ATtiny85, ATtiny84 and ATtiny2313A |
| Motors and drivers | 28BYJ-48 stepper motor, DRV8825 stepper motor carrier, ULN2003A stepper driver board, a fan |
| Sensors and inputs | DHT11, DHT22, HC-SR501 motion sensor, GP2Y1010AU0F dust sensor, a micro switch |
| Displays and lights | SSD1306 OLED displays (128×64 and a second version), NeoPixel strips in RGB and RGBW, and a white light strip |
| Power and switching | 18650 battery and holder, step-up converter, screw terminal with a USB cable, AC dimmer module, Keyes relay module |
| Radio and test | FS1000A 433 MHz RF transmitter, XD-RF-5V module, Fluke 17B+ digital multimeter |
Some of these parts are the ones in the diagrams of the ESP8266 HomeKit Thermostat, the ESP8266 HomeKit Motion Sensor and the NeoPixel RGBW strip.
Getting the parts
The parts are not in the repository as files you can browse. They are published as a release, a single Fritzing.parts.rar of about 6 MB, on the releases page of the repository. The archive is a RAR file, so you need a program that can open those.
There have been four releases, from 0.0.1 in February 2021 to 0.0.4 in January 2023, called Parts Update. Together they were downloaded more than 7,000 times.
The repository also has a custom folder icon to make the parts folder easy to find. On a Mac, choose File, then Get Info, click the small folder icon at the top of the info window, and drag the new icon onto it.
Licence
The parts are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence, CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, copyright 2023 Achim Pieters | StudioPieters. In short: you may use and share them with credit, but not for commercial use, and you may not share modified versions. Read the licence itself for the exact terms.
Good to know
- The repository was created in 2016, and the last release is from January 2023.
Everything is in the Fritzing-Custom-Parts repository on GitHub.
